LEARN MORE ABOUT CLUB ENGLISH EQUESTRIAN

The Syracuse University Club English Equestrian team has been part of Syracuse University for over 20 years, riding and competing as a registered club sport. The club thrives on the dedication of their members, the passion of their coach, Denise Van Patten, and their strong team spirit. The team welcomes students from all riding levels, ranging from never having ridden a horse through 2'6"+ fences. In order to be eligible to join the coed team, prospective students must be full-time (12 credits) undergraduate students of either Syracuse University or SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and be in good academic standing (at least a 2.5 GPA). The team of 15-20 students ride weekly at Affinity Farms in Skaneateles, New York, and compete at eight shows throughout their regular season as well as regionals at the end of each show season. As a part of Zone 2, Region 2 of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA), the Club English Equestrian team travels Upstate New York competing against other New York and Canadian teams. To remain a highly competitive team, the price of dues usually hovers around $600 for the fall semester and $400 for the spring semester.

In addition to shows, the club works every year to improve their team and community. They host educational programs for local Girl Scout Troops and have volunteered their time to local horse rehoming and rescue facilities. The English Equestrians believe that horseback riding is not only about the sport, but also about fostering a diverse, well-educated equine community. For any questions or if you would like more information, email suenglishequestrian@gmail.com or message the team on Instagram at @syracuse_equestrian.
