Syracuse Men's Hockey Hall of Fame
Ben Potenza’s lifelong passion for hockey is best captured in his own words: “just a love for the game.” Growing up in the Boston suburbs, where hockey culture runs deep, Potenza developed into a high-level player with aspirations of continuing at the collegiate level, even earning a scholarship opportunity before an injury altered his path. That change ultimately led him to Syracuse University, where he discovered both a new direction academically and the opportunity to continue playing the game he loved. As a forward from 1985 to 1989, Potenza brought a combination of grit, intelligence, and toughness to the ice, earning a reputation as a determined competitor who gave everything each game.
Beyond his on-ice contributions, Potenza was a central figure in the program’s leadership and culture, serving as captain and helping manage the team during his junior and senior years. He played a key role in building team identity and school spirit, helping grow fan engagement and strengthening the program’s presence on campus. Following Syracuse, Potenza built a highly successful career in business leadership, spending decades in executive roles across global organizations. His impact as a player, leader, and ambassador for the program makes him a proud inductee into the Syracuse University Men’s Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
