A forward known for his scoring ability and relentless drive, Mechem led the team in scoring in each of his four seasons and earned three Finger Lakes Collegiate Hockey League All-Star selections. His leadership and competitive spirit were instrumental in sustaining the program at a time when resources were limited, and his commitment to effort and teamwork set the standard for those around him.

Following his collegiate career, Mechem continued playing hockey at the semi-professional level in New England while beginning a long and impactful career in education.
