Though his time with Syracuse University Men’s Hockey was tragically brief, Richie Carlston left an enduring impact on the program and everyone who knew him. A talented goaltender, he quickly established himself as a key contributor, earning the admiration of teammates for his skill, work ethic, and ability to rise to big moments. His presence in the locker room and on the ice made the team stronger.

Following his passing in 2010, the program honored Carlston’s legacy by retiring his number and dedicating a championship season to his memory. His spirit continues to live on through the Richie Carlston Award, given annually to a player who embodies the values he represented. His induction is a tribute to his lasting influence and the profound mark he left on Syracuse hockey.
