Jim Evert was an early architect of Syracuse University Men’s Hockey, helping establish the Syracuse University Hockey Association and contributing as a key forward during its formative years. Despite beginning his hockey career in college, he quickly became a top playmaker, leading the team in assists and sharing the scoring lead during the program’s first official season. His efforts helped lay the groundwork for organized competition and league play.

After Syracuse, Evert built an accomplished career in business, including a 30-year tenure with IBM and executive leadership roles in the technology sector. He also served as Mayor of San Clemente, California, reflecting his commitment to leadership and community service. A dedicated supporter of Syracuse hockey, Evert has played a vital role in preserving the program’s history and reconnecting its alumni.

Evert was also recognized with the Van Winkle Award in 2019.
